Abstract


Objective: The authors has surveyed young children, school children and adlescents for dental examination in order to know the relationship between the frequency of daily tooth-brushing and the caries status or periodontal state in young children, school children and adolescent aged groups.

Methods: 804 of subjects who lived in Okcheon conty were participated with answering the questionnaire for daily tooth brushing time. Modified Snyder test was done together to find the caries activity and prediction for each aged groups. Cor-re-late corefficient was calculated with each factors for the frequency of tooth-brushing, caries state, periodontal state and modi-fied Snyder test in decideous dentition and in permanent dentition.

Results: 1. It was recommended that toothbrushing instruction include the frequency of brushing time would be effective in school children aged group because some significant negative cor-relation was revealed between the frequency and caries or periodontal state in primary school children. 2. Snyder test was the most proper for young children in deciduous dentition to predict the caries activity. 3. There was the similar pattern and relation between the caries incidence and periodontal state in young children as well as with the frequency of toothbrushing, otherwise no relation each others by age growth as in middle or high school adolescents.

Conclusion: Proper oral health education include the toothbrushing and supplying the adequate preventive measures should be selected considering with the related factors according by age group.
